Start with Book Finder to Narrow the Field
Book Finder is the entry point. It lets you filter by category, word-count length, estimated reading time, chapter rhythm, sentence flow, and subject. With 70 books in Geography, 10 in Places Peoples, 10 in Travel Narratives, and 10 in Exploration, the category filter alone can cut the list dramatically. The tool also lets you indicate a preference for popular or hidden-gem titles, which can be useful when you want a well-known classic or a lesser-known account.
The Finder is most effective when you combine two or three criteria. For example, if you have a week and want a steady read, you might choose Travel Narratives, set length to 'medium' (which covers 20 books in the catalog), and select a subject like 'England -- Description and travel' (7 books). The result is a short list that respects your time and interest.
Use Compare Books to See the Trade-offs
Once you have two or three candidates, Compare Books shows side-by-side metrics: word count, estimated reading time, text sections, sentence flow, chapter rhythm, and subjects. These are descriptive, not evaluative. A book with 60 text sections may feel more episodic than one with 10, but that is not a judgment of quality.
For instance, comparing A Gringo in Mañana-Land (22 sections, 18-word sentences) with The Lake Regions of Central Africa: A Picture of Exploration, Vol. 1 (25 sections, 19.2-word sentences) reveals that both have a similar number of sections, but the latter is nearly twice as long. That difference matters if you have limited reading time.
Plan Your Progress with Reading Tracker
After you choose a book, the Reading Tracker helps you estimate a realistic pace. It records progress in pages, not minutes or sections. For a book with 83,155 words and a default of 250 words per page, the estimated total is about 333 pages. If you set a daily goal of 20 pages, the tracker calculates that you will finish in about 17 days.
The tracker stores your history in the browser, so you can update your page count as you go. If your edition has a different page count, you can replace the estimate with the actual total. That flexibility makes the tool useful for both digital and print editions.
